Summer Tastings: Heritage and Flavor on the Almansa Wine Route

This summer, from Ruta del Vino Almansa and Denominación de Origen Almansa we invite you to live a unique wine tourism experience with the “Summer Tastings, Heritage and Flavor“. Discover the historical and natural charms of Alpera, Almansa and Higueruela and taste our wines with the Almansa Denomination of Origin seal. Get ready to learn the secrets of winemaking with tastings full of history and flavor!

First Stop: Alpera – July 27th

The Summer Tastings begin in Alpera on July 27th. At 10:00 am, we will start the day with a visit to two of the most emblematic points of the town: the Cueva de La Vieja and the Pozo de la Nieve. La Vieja Cave is known for its impressive cave paintings, a World Heritage Site, which will take you back to ancient times. El Pozo de la Nieve, on the other hand, is a testimony of the traditional ingenuity to preserve ice and snow in the past.

From 12:00h, we will meet in the picturesque washhouse of Alpera for a tasting of generic wines from the Almansa Designation of Origin. This space, full of history and charm, will be the perfect setting to taste a selection of wines that stand out for their quality and authenticity.

Second Stop: Almansa – September 3 & 4

Our next stop will be in Almansa, coinciding with its fair. On this occasion, 4 wine tastings will be held, each one with a DO Almansa winery and in the afternoon: from 7 pm to 8 pm and from 8 pm to 9 pm. The tastings will be free of charge with limited seating. They will be held at the Almansa Tourism Office.

These tastings will also include a free guided tour of the 1707 Battle of 1707 Museum. The Battle Museum tells the story of the 1707 Battle of Almansa, a crucial event in the War of the Spanish Succession.

The participating wineries are Bodegas Piqueras, Bodegas MataMangos, Hacienda El Espino and Bodegas Atalaya. On the following schedule:

Tuesday, September 3.

  • 19h to 20h. Tasting of Bodegas Piqueras. – 20h to 21h. Museum of the Battle of 1707.
  • 19h to 20h. Museum of the Battle of 1707. – 20h to 21h. Tasting of Bodegas Matamangos.

Wednesday, September 4th

  • 19h to 20h. Hacienda El Espino tasting. – 20h to 21h. Museum of the Battle of 1707.
  • 19h to 20h. Museum of the Battle of 1707. – 20h to 21h. Tasting of Bodegas Atalaya.

Third Stop: Higueruela – September 14th

We will close our Summer Tastings in Higueruela, on Saturday, September 14. The tasting will take place at the Ermita Santa Bárbara, a place of peace and beauty, ideal to learn first-hand about the elaboration of our wines. Before the tasting, attendees will be able to visit the Salobralejo Lagoon and the Alquería de la Graja, two natural sites that stand out for their biodiversity and unique landscapes.

The Ermita Santa Bárbara will be the perfect place for our last tasting of the summer, where the wines of the Almansa Denomination of Origin will be paired with the tranquility and splendor of the natural environment, offering a complete sensory experience.
