Description
The tour begins at the POZO DE LA NIEVE INTERPRETATION CENTRE, followed by a visit to POZO DE LA NIEVE (one of the largest snow pits in Spain and the largest in Castilla-La Mancha. It was declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 2010). The tour continues with a visit to the PARQUE PERIURBANO DE LA MEJORADA (a natural park with centuries-old holm oak trees, where you can enjoy nature and be transported back to what was once the landscape of what is now the town of Alpera). MUNICIPAL MARKET (The Municipal Market of Alpera was constructed at the end of the 50’s, at the moment it continues working. It is located between San Roque street and the Paseo de la Constitución, having access by both ways). Finally, visit our heritage gem, the CUEVA DE LA VIEJA (the most important rock art site in the eastern part of the peninsula. It is a shelter of considerable size that preserves painted motifs representative of two prehistoric art forms: Levantine Art and Schematic Art. It was declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 1985 and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1998).
*The itinerary can be modified at the visitor’s request, replacing the Mejorada Park and the Municipal Market with the Santa Marina Parish Church, the Old Laundry and the San Roque Chapel.
